back to Charlottesville!

I'm going back to Charlottesville today! Will be there till Sunday. Plans so far for my weekend include much brunching, going ice-skating, going to see Wallace and Gromit, and observing a bout of competitive drinking*.

The furor of the previous entries arose from the controversy over the IRC website and who is going to do it. It's been decided now: me. I have mixed feelings regarding the whole affair. I'm not sure any of us behaved very well. The person who had been working on the website and who had doubtless already put many many hours into it received very short notice yesterday that all her efforts would be in vain. She'd had an ultimatum, but I don't know how clearly worded it was and I kind of think it was more along the lines of 'if the website is not finished by this day' rather than 'if it's not finished, or we don't like your design, or we like Katherine's design better even though Katherine herself said she would not have this turning into a competition' and finished, when it comes to websites, is a very ambiguous word. I think the biggest problem with her design was this website compiler thing Mambo, which I'm sure was designed to be easier than simply writing everything out in good, plain HTML but actually (from what I could tell) limited what you could do and made it so that it only looked good in at certain specific resolution (much lower than mine). I looked at it and decided that since I did not intuitively understand how to use it within ten minutes, I wasn't going to bother learning how to use it. We're hoping to finally get a space on the Virginia domain to put it on anyway, so I shouldn't need it anyway. For the moment I'm testing it on my own website, but I won't put the link here because my buttons don't work for reason unknown and I don't want people looking at it till it's good.

But I'm excited about it. It's fun. I'm learning all about website design. And it's nice to give back something to the place I've lived for three years. Oh, and my cat's throwing up. Got to go.
